I was born in Latvia, and for about 15 years, I worked as a professional contemporary dance artist. So most of my career, I spent touring and teaching across countries in Europe. When I was living in London, I discovered different somatic practices that I often used in my work. But it was not until my body collapsed after burnout and a personal crisis that I truly appreciated the subtle healing power of these body-mind tools.
At that time, I was dealing with several psychosomatic symptoms, many of which didn’t make any sense. They included insomnia, chronic fatigue, hypersensitivity, episodes of depression, to name just a few. So I started to research the impact of chronic stress and trauma on our nervous system. Soon after, I also began to study the ‘bottom up’ or body-oriented approach to healing.
Understanding trauma was the missing piece in my recovery. This knowledge, along with trauma-informed somatic tools and therapy, helped me regulate my nervous system and dramatically improve my health. And this is the knowledge and tools that I use with my clients. Many of them, just like me, have tried almost everything in search of relief.
